Yemen's Houthi forces declared a maritime embargo on Saudi Arabia on July 20, effective immediately, and said they would target Saudi, Israeli and US-linked tankers at Bab el-Mandeb, per Al Jazeera, NBC News and Reuters. On July 23 the group said it struck two Saudi tankers; a Saudi news agency confirmed one was set ablaze, while the second remains unconfirmed by maritime trackers. The US Navy-led Joint Maritime Information Center told mariners the Houthis had deployed missiles and drones near the strait. Several tankers carrying Saudi cargo turned back before reaching it.READ ▸ Riyadh's Red Sea route was the relief valve for a closed Hormuz. Both flanks are now interdicted at once, and there is no third corridor.
