Africa CDC director-general Jean Kaseya said on July 22 that confirmed deaths in the DRC outbreak had passed 1,031 since the Bundibugyo strain emerged in May. Congolese health ministry figures reported on July 20 put confirmed cases at 2,344 with at least 930 deaths, including 37 deaths in a single 24-hour period. The WHO situation report for July 15 recorded 2,124 cases and 828 deaths across 46 health zones in five provinces, with a case fatality rate of 39.0 percent.
